Meet the Team: Kim

We interviewed the incredibly passionate Assistant Accountant, Kim this week! Kim started off as a contractor in the business and very quickly joined the team on a permanent basis!

*******

What are you passionate about?

I've realised that I am really passionate about learning. I like learning about a lot of different things, not just finance. I love learning about what others are doing and growing my own knowledge in different areas of the business.

What does self-care mean to you? What do you like to do in your spare time?

I guess for me self-care is exercise. I train at least 5 times a week. I try to meditate every day also. I always do one before I go to bed and one in the afternoon. I find that I'm better with the guided meditations!

The entire WAB team did the happiness project in 2020. We looked at things that make people happy. In that course, they talk a lot about meditation. I was so grateful that the team experienced that together! I find that meditation really does calm the mind. WAB are very encouraging of us looking after our mental health and they encourage us to make time for things that matter to us.

To me self-care is also about surrounding yourself with good people. That's why I love working at WAB! Everyone is so bright and bubbly. They really do have a great attitude towards everything!

Having moved to Perth recently, it goes without saying that I also love spending my spare time at the beach!

What is your proudest achievement?

Professionally - finishing my studies recently! It can be quite challenging trying to juggle work, a social life, parenting and studying! WAB really do provide an accomodating environment for you to flourish though!

Personally - my kids. I'm really proud of them!

How long have you been with WAB?

Since Jan 2016!

Tell us about your career history at WAB?

When I first joined WAB, they were looking for a contractor book keeper to work only a few days a week. As the business grew, I became a permanent employee at WAB.My role has evolved over the years. I have recently moved into an Assistant Accountant role and I also oversee payroll currently. I really do feel like I am given the opportunity to grow professionally at WAB.

What's been your fondest memory at WAB?

It would be the retreat in Jan 2019! I absolutely loved that. All the HQ team went away for a few days. The Perth Office got to spend time with the Melbourne Office! It's honestly such a great experience! You really feel like you are contributing to the whole package at WAB. Everyones thoughts and ideas are heard and considered... It doesn't matter what department you're from or anything. We also did some nice relaxing things on the retreat as well! It was such a nice balance between strategising and bonding!

Why do you love working at WAB?

It's the people. I enjoy being amongst around fun, intelligent and energetic people. I love learning from them and they are all genuinely good people at WAB. Everyone has a sense of humour. I feel like the entire team gel well. I also love the product we stock! To work for a company that I actually feel strongly about the brand as well is really important to me. I love that there is always room to grow in the business as well.

What are you most excited about?

I'm most excited for 2022 and the growth plans at WAB! It's amazing to see how the company has evolved over the years. We started off in a tiny little office in Garden City. Now we have offices globally!! It's amazing!!

What's one thing that got you through lockdown at WAB?

The regular meetings! It is very easy to feel isolated working at home on your own especially for someone like me who absolutely loves being around people so the thought of not being able to see anyone for awhile was daunting but not once did I feel like wasn't part of the team! Having the regular check in's have been important to me! The morning meetings (that continue even post lockdown) include some team activities like meditation and warm up sessions! We also do virtual walks together during the week. I think it's important to have a balance at work where you can have fun together as a team but can also focus on achieving goals. I feel like WAB has really mastered that!
